I wonder if there will be some type of APIs to access Serverstatistics or to get infos from his own account on the QL page.

Any infos about that?

I wonder if there are any thoughts by id so far, that if QL gets fixes, updates, changes if quake3 will get them too in a point release?

For example if a point release would fix the physics thingy, the hitboxes and so forth?

Anything heared about that?

I recently watched Afro Samurai (Offical Site, Imdb) - the 5 episodes.

Very cool and bloody stuff indeed, but the main plot is that there are existing two ancient headbands, one has the number 1, which can only be challenged by the number 2, and the headband with the number 2, which can be challenged by everyone.

Everyone tries to be the number 1 fighter, to be nearly a god in fighting.

In the end - I think - the story tells that there were more than two headbands, like 1 to 10 or so.

This all leads me to the idea, that quakelive could have such kind of laddersystem.

There could be a coupple of rules, for example:

We have the "headbands":

1x Number 1
1x Number 2
4x Number 3
16x Number 4
64x Number 5
256x Number 6

Players with headband Number 6 can be challenged by everyone without a headband. Players with Number 6 cannot challenge other players with headband number 6, because the result would be still wearing a number 6 (so it should be useless or be counted as training). Players with Number 6 should only challenge Number 5 Players. If you loose to a player with no headband you loose it and exchange places. If you win over a Number 5 player, you get the 5 and he gets the 6.

In Afro Samurai, the looser always dies. Well on Quake I think an headband exchange would be more suitable. :D

There should be another rule which includes a) an inactive penality (thus you have to accept challenges and therefore you can loose your headband by going inactive) and b) you have to accept and execute challenges in X days or so.

The lesser the number on your headband are, the more time do you have to be inactive.

For example the Number 1 player should have the right to accept one challenge every 5 days or so. It must be hard to challenge Number 1 - to even catch his time. If there would'nt be such a rule the "powerfull" headband number 1 would switch the ower to fast and therefore it would not gain a legandary mythos. :)

All these rules applies to all headbands from 1 to 6 (in my example) with the exception that Number one is "god"

Has id Software any plans to update the q3 engine to allow gimmics such as tricots with the ranking number on the model or so? I am pretty sure that we will not see "headbands" on the model, but for that Ladder some kind of cool thing like a crown, a medal or so would be awesome.

I really like the idea of that laddersystem.

Borre release a new ETF movie a few days ago. The title is Once and the duration is 12 minutes.

The movie is a hommage to ETF how fun it is and was in the past. The movie contains mostly funny scenes, with bloopers, unexpected team kills and so other action.

Have a look and join #kgather afterwards to play some matches or talk to borre about the movie.

At the Games Convention Valve demonstrated a video with ingame scenes of all characters of Team Fortress 2 (TF2). This video is capture from a GC visitor.

The video shows all classes (except for the medic and pyro) in action in a mini-story fashion. One class counters the next until the end "air-dance" of a group of soldiers.

Some notes to the movie:

  • Heavy Weapon Guy can nicely walk while shooting with the minigun
  • The scout is jumping not once (hope this is only because of the movie)
  • The character faces can grin very cool
  • The sentry gun self-buildup rocks!
  • The engineer can walk around while SG is in build process
  • There was no flag at all, only an orange "top secret" case (to steal I guess)
  • corpes and weapons seems to have real physic attached
  • The minigun spread-circle is huge
  • No backpacks from dead people?
  • The spy forgot to lighten his cigarette :-)
UPDATE It seems that EP2 is delayed until February 2007, which is a bad news. Read more here

After the released information that VALVE is going to release Team Fortress 2 along with Half-Life 2 - Episode 2. Some more informations are ariving.

It was unsure if that group image is just rendered or ingame, on one website a valve member answerd that this is in fact ingame.

As ETF player, I am not sure what to think. One website wrote, that all we can see is the map 2forts and everything looks like Toy Story (which does not bother me). With that trailer I can't tell what kind of physic model is used. crossing fingers that it is still TF style.

I guess we have to wait until real ingame footage from players.

EDIT: I guess new informations are going to show up here at including informations about HL2EP2, TF2 and Portal.

AGO-Boreas has made a ETF movie which is more fun related, than skill. It looks like he was checking all his demos started from the old Q3F days and put the best together to have a funny movie.

Moose from clan UNiTED, which is at the moment one of the strongest ETF clans in the ETF scene, has released a frag movie.

The movie contains action from his clan mates and from himself. Amazing stuff if you know ETF or at least the concept of TF in general.

For all movie fans, who might not know TF, keep an eye on the oval white/blue grenade which is named: conc. With that grenade you gain a lot of instant speed (for amazing attacks and jumps) and a dizzy effect.

Also note that every grenade is pretimed in TF. Which means you have to activate the grenade 4 seconds before you can use it for jumping or fragging. With that in mind some jumps and frags are much more amazing.

So enough talk, enjoy.

I want to mention that another ETF related movie was released.
ekse, who is a member in a ETF clan and also part of the clan. Merged both worlds of his beloved games into one movie filled with action. Here the notes from his clan website:

After a month of more and less work, i finished my little ETF and CPMActf Movie.

don't expect too much. as i didnt want to spend so much time on it, i watched quite few demos and therefore its nothing special.
but still, i think it became a really nice little movie :)

It was also meant to be a little ETF promotion movie, thats another reason i kept the ETF action quite low. its already confusing enough for people who don't know anything about ETF.

The CPMA part is
a) to show you my leet skills ;)
b) because im playing CPMctf and this movie is also about me
c) to get more attention on ETF by other gamers.

Kaktuz, from Clan Vexillum, has released a new ETF movie called: Instinct. The movie features a lot of nice action like Air rockets, flag capture and shows some nice moves too. Music is very nice, Editing too. Give it a try!

The movie runtime is around 16 minutes and the size is ~400MB.

This movie is the second movie from Kaktuz so far. He also released the movie 'bloodflower' a few years ago which is still amazing.
