Zoot recently held casting try outs with quite a few would-be quake casters. fnx was one of the few candidates who made it through and is now part of the zLive team. We've thrown some questions together for Cris "fnx" Vlasiu to answer.

M4nimal: In becoming a commentator, was there anything you needed to do in order to have an edge in regards to match / player insights, or are you relying solely on your experience as a player?

fnx: In terms of prep work I do like to check out players profile on QL.com and QLRanks just to see what they have been up too recently, it allows me a little bit of insight into their form going into the game and it's nice to have stats handy during the stream.

The last time Quake Live featured at a major gaming event in South African was at rAge 2010, where international stars from MSI Fnatic, Sebastian Spart1e Siira and Pierre-Emeric l1nkje Portier attended. The event ended on a high, with SA's #1 at the time, Stephen Ph4ntom Cloete played in an exhibition match against Spart1e, which ended in overtime with Spart1e winning 10 - 9.

Since then, its mostly been a barren desert. In 2012, the [email protected] hosted an online 1v1 tournament along with two other tournaments that year. This led to Quake becoming a featured game for the Do Gaming League in 2013. After two seasons, we're finally seeing the top 8 from the Do Gaming League (DGL) face off against each other at this years final - the Do Gaming Championships!

I have an old game with some old demos, I want to play the demo via the game on my PC and record it to AVI (or whatever), so that history can be saved and uploaded to YouTube, how can I do this?

ie: playing an old quake 2 demo and saving that as a vid, or quake 3

Greetz! This stems from my previous post on how to improve 1v1 skill.. as an update to that, I was hovering around the 1300 ELO with no progress on improving, after much research and item timing practice and thanks to ESR readers :D I've recently defeated 1600 and 1700 ELO opponents! Yay for me..

I could be way off with this thinking, but I've noticed in many games, that the railgun is the major decider on the outcome of the game. By this I mean, if my opponent mostly uses rail and uses it well, there is no chance in hell I can beat him. If you're able to start a cycle of: opponent spawns-rail him-kill with another weapon, repeat - its so damn difficult for that opponent to get control back.

There are some players I cant beat at all on maps with a RG, but on lost world I own them..

So my question is from the point of view of the guy being railed at spawn and trying to find a way to get control back...

Whats best practice/strategy against a heavy railing opponent?

And soz if this has been answered many times over on ESR, google has not been very helpful on this topic

I seriously need to improve my 1v1 game.. I watch loads of demos and try to practice a few games a day.. I am just not improving at all.

I really dont want to hear advice like "watch more demos" or "practice practice practice"!

I'm looking for some sort of proper guide, advanced tutorial video blog style guide on some advanced techniques on how to improve your 1v1 game.
