Cypher DH12 Video Interview (87 comments)
Posted by Infuscomus @ 09:36 CDT, 19 June 2012 - iMsg
Hi guys, I guess most of you know now that I was at DreamHack this week and that I made some videos and interviews. Finally the last interview I made for this event is now online. I'm talking about an interview with non other than Cypher.

In this interview, the player from Belarus talks about the grand final against Rapha, the problems he had with his setup, missing top players, QL state, Evil's performance, his aim and rockets and Shootmania.

Esportsfrance: Did you train for Shootmania already and do you really like the game as it is or are you just playing it because there are going to be tournaments and money to make ?
Cypher: First of all, I already said it, not first time, I don't understand the people, like people on ESReality that are talking trash about this game. I feel they didn't try it. In general, everybody who tries the game say it's fun. It's really fun. It lacks of modes like Quake has, like OSP but in general it's a really good teamplay game. There is teamplay but at the same time you can win a round on your own with railgun. It's a mix of duel and teamplay. [...]

Hello guys. So, I alreay said some things in comments but it will be easier to make everything centralized on a forum post.

Esportsfrance is at DH and we try to make interviews (most of quake players have already been interviewed on stream anyway but the more the better), photos and videos.

I try to make some footage too with my poor camera. Here are all the links you may need to see some Quake action :
Esportsfrance photos (general, few Quake photos but still some good quality pics).

I talked about quart finals in these interviews while the players qualified for round of 16. Sorry about that, I'm stupid sometimes.

dem0n interview on Esportsfrance (68 comments)
Posted by Infuscomus @ 05:09 CDT, 11 April 2012 - iMsg
As promised some time ago, I am now making available a Belgium dem0n interview. I did the translation myself again so I apologize for any mistakes.

You probably all know Belgium dem0n, brilliant TDM / CTF / duel player from Belgium, and probably the one who has achieved the most in QuakeLive. In this interview we discuss his personal career, the CTF NC, TDM and the Belgium scene, the Adrien "burnedd" Denis case, the future of fast FPS and so on. Here's an extract of the interview:

Let's talk about duel. You already went to many big LAN events like DreamHacks or the UGC and you regularly do pretty well in Zotac cups, what do you think of your situation on the international scene and what are the domains in which you have to get better in order to annoy the big five in your opinion ?
Honestly, in online competition I have more difficulties against "subtop" players than against top players like Cypher, Avekkk, Cooller or rapha...except strenx of course. By subtop, I mean players like p0ni, pavel_, uaReaper, alfaomega, agent, evil, etc. who are really good players online according to me. I did some good results in LAN events too but I often missed some opportunities, some momentum.[...]

QuakeLive in other languages. (35 comments)
Posted by Infuscomus @ 10:40 CDT, 30 March 2012 - iMsg
Hmm ok it's me again sorry I've been using the forum a lot recently.

Today, out of nowhere, I decided to talk to SyncError (ok lol) and sponge about the possibility to have QuakeLive available in multiple language. I know we are in 2012, I know english skills are developing everywhere, but trust me in France at least it will take ages before young people and random people understand english well. I always thought an english version only was preventing QuakeLive to seduce de casuals and the masses.

So, basically I asked sponge and he told me it wasn't going to happen because :
no plans to localize, no. the tech can't handle it without some serious rewriting of font rendering and all the places english strings are sent on the server

Then I said random stuff, that is was unfortunate blabla, and that I thought community would do translations for free and so on and he said :
after seeing what happened with minecraft's translations i dont think we have any desire to go near crowdsourced translations for a good long time heh

So, basically in this thread I'd like to discuss about two things :

- Do you think russian, german, spanish, french, chinese versions of QuakeLive would help the game grow ?
- Do you think some people could do a serious translation for free (I know I would personally) ?

Guismo12 interview ! (10 comments)
Posted by Infuscomus @ 05:07 CDT, 30 March 2012 - iMsg
Hello everyone. Recently I decided to make some interviews of good players for Esportsfrance where I'm in charge of QL news (actually I'm not in charge, or kind of, but I'm the only one to write about QL except ROGAAAJJ that helps sometimes, whatever).

I did interview Guismo12 last week, he is a long time player, member of the french TDM team and a very good dueler, and I'm sure most of you know his name. I asked him questions about the TDM Clanbase NationsCup, the duel scene, his plans for the future and about the general state of the game.

The interview was made in french of course, but I decided to translate it so that everybody can read it and know Guismo12 a bit better.

Please keep in mind that Esportsfrance isn't a pro QuakeLive, site, SCII and LoL are much more popular there so sometimes questions might sound a bit noobish but I wanted to make them interesting and understandable for the majority.

I might have done some english mistake in the process, I didn't check everything so I'd appreciate if you could tell me what I wrote wrong so that I can make some corrections and have the best version.

Here comes an extract of the interview :

You are a part of the French team in the TDM Clanbase Nations Cup. What do you expect of that competition in terms of rank and what are the teams you fear the most ?
Our goal is clearly to win the competition. Last year we lost in the grand final against a good Denmark team but that loss remains a disappoitment for us all. This year our best map (osp5, Deep Inside) is no longer in the map pool (which isn't a good thing since I don't remember any loss on that map) so we had to adapt to other maps and we managed to do pretty well until now. [...]

Read the full interview on Esportsfrance ! I hope you'll enjoy it. Next interview will be dem0n.

P.S : I sent messages some times ago to rapha, Cypher and so on via Facebook I think and mb irc but they didn't answer so, please if good players happen to read this : At least answer my message so that I know if you are okay or if I should gtfo :p. More interviews to come when it's done :p.

QuakeLive and MAC ? (24 comments)
Posted by Infuscomus @ 15:06 CDT, 20 March 2012 - iMsg
Hello everyone. First of all, I apologize if this matter has already been discussed hundreds of time and people are tired of it, I didn't check the whole forums.

I was wondering if people at id software had the idea to have QuakeLive fully functional under MAC OS ? I am not a MAC user personnaly, but I have some friends that have MACs and they don't want to install a windows part (or they don't know how to do it) to play QuakeLive. That's a shame because they like the game and we play from time to time for fun but access to console and config tweaks are really hard, they get lots of disconnection and bugs, etc.

Since there are not patches every months (I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just a fact), I wonder from time to time if they are working on a MAC version or not. I think it would be a great addition to the game since MAC are getting more and more popular.

I have no idea about how much work it could take to make QL supported by MAC, are there people in here that could explain to me what is hard in the process (a summary ofc, I don't need technical explanations since I don't know anything about coding).

Thank you.

Quake Live config question ! (4 comments)
Posted by Infuscomus @ 09:42 CDT, 5 August 2010 - iMsg
Hi.

I've been watching some videos lately and I found one using a config that somewhat struck me.

Here's the video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9DdchanVf8

I was wondering what settings this guy used so that he has white walls with black borders.

I tried lots of things with picmip 16, vertexlight, fullbright, etc But either everything is way to bright and everything is white (no black borders) or I have colored walls with brownborder, depending on the map.

Does anyone know how to get this view ?

Also, feel free to post a screenshot of your config in the comments, that might be interesting to share some tricks here.

Weird mouse problem with Quake 4. (8 comments)
Posted by Infuscomus @ 13:38 CDT, 27 July 2010 - iMsg
Hi everyone, I'm posting here because I experience a weird problem I didn't experienced before and I wondered if someone here have already had the same problem.

Some informations :

I use Windows 7 64b

Wheel Mouse Optical with Intellipoint drivers.

The last version of Q4 available, 1.4.something

USB sample rate for the mouse is 500Hz.

The problem is :

When I'm in the menus or in game, the crosshair won't move if I move my mouse slowly (very slowly). If I move fast/normal it's ok, but if I move slowly (like when you're not in a gun fight) then the mouse is extremely sloppy.

It's quite annoying.

I tried with another WMO mouse with default 125 Hz and it seems it's a bit better...

What do you think ?

Is there a in_mouse command in Quake 4 I can try to change or ?

EDIT : It seems the problem came from the 10.7 catalyst drivers.

I went back to 10.4 and I don't have any problem now with the mouse it seems to be running perfectly well.

Really, I wonder what ATI is doing with their "updates".
