i was just thinking, if you should place the monitor on your desk so that the crossair ingame lines up with your dominant eye(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3e2jGixAhCA), rather than having the screen 100 percent centered.
"Hey everybody! I've made a fragvideo with all of the best plays from the "recent" GXL LAN in Philadelphia.
I didn't manage to catch much of it live, so I've been watching the demos over the course of the last two months and this video are the highlights of that. I hope you like it." Beater
I have a CA server(oKiDoKi) and an Elo ~1600 and play in T3/T4 (my tier fluctuates between the 2). My main objective is to have fun playing Quake with people of similar ability. When I play in T4 I get slaughtered, in T3 I often finish top. So from this I've worked out that the best tier for me would be T3.5 . To try and produce this happy medium I run minobot (minqlbot.dll) which amongst other things allows me to enforce an Elo limit on players. I have arbitrarily set that limit at 1800 to test the waters. I have done this for the last few days and it seems to work ok. The bot automatically puts players above the threshold into spec and won't let them join a team. It also tells them the reason (this is a curtesy as the limit is advertised in the server title)
Problem: New accounts/Fakers.
Sometimes players come on who have modest Elo scores say 1300 and then play like Quake gods. One guy came on yesterday and had done triple the damage of my son (Elo 1700 and rising rapidly. He used to play Bf2 for a pro team and has recently started playing quake a lot.) I checked this guys stats on qlive and discovered his Rg was around 55% and Lg not far behind. Clearly this guy was VERY skilled. Now that's great for him and I respect that , but unfortunately it creates a dilemma for me. People started disconnecting because I simply couldn't balance the teams with him playing. This guys account was about a month old so maybe he just needs to play more games for his Elo to reflect his skill or maybe he's a faker. I don't know. Should I have kicked him in the interest of balancing the teams? I asked him about his real Elo and he said it was 2500 and laughed. I don't know wether he was serious or not. What is the policy on kicking during gameplay? I've heard it could be considered abuse (stat padding in duels and the like) but what about CA? CA is not serious Quake (that's why I play it) it's just a playground. I hate kicking anybody unless it's ansolutley necessary, but as an admin a certain amount of discretion to kick is both desired and required. Your thoughts please.
What would be useful would be a further layer of player profiling based on their skillrating. This variable seems to assess players skill much more rapidly than Elo. My son for example went from new account to T4 in a very short timeframe. I don't think this variable is directly accessible from a players stats however, but it can be found by using /serverinfo on an empty server (not very useful when a new player connects to a busy server). If the bot had this number (assuming a large enough number of games had been played) and the players Elo it could determine with much greater accuracy the true skill of the player.
Now keeping in mind how much the (somewhat minor in comparison) deviation shown there made a significant difference in game, lets look at the graphs of the g502 and FK1 (both of which I previously said were shit, with the 502 being somewhat less shit):
P.S. - This isn't perfect, as the graph doesn't really show how the mouse feels ingame (IE: the deviations on the FM graphs were evidence of a different feeling/problem vs what was felt with the other mice). But it does give us some evidence of flaws we can feel while playing.
Many thanks to Microe for his program, and Ino for his screenshots.

I'am proud to announce the Carnage!! #4 CTF Draft. This draft is mainly for players from Russia, Ukraine or Belarus, but players from other countries are welcomed as well if they are agree to play on high ping. It will be played on Saturday, 09:00 CST, 31 January 2015. There's 2000 RUB up for the 1st place.
Independent reports that they found almost 500 vaginal mutilation surgeries, commonly practiced in North Africa which symbolises the passage to womanhood. It bears no medical benefits. What's jameiro's expert opinion on this? Why is it happening in the UK?
Quakecon 2015 has been recently announced, and players are starting to arrange their trips to take part in what - for the moment - looks like being the only major event for Quake Live in 2015.
Tonight, Pelle "fazz" Söderman announced on his stream that he will be going to Quakecon, and participate in the tournaments there. The specific formats are yet to be revealed, but rumors talk about the traditional Duel Masters plus a Team focused tournament.
Fazz is an old school player, with good performances in both duel and TDM. His last apparitions were at Lan Prague, where 4 old men arrived 2nd , beaten by the Russian powerhouse deliberate murder, and at the 125FPS Showmatch agains his countryman Spart1e which resulted in a 4-3 for fazz.
This is a strange turn of events. Recently, I had plans to move to London, where I would have had considerably less time to dedicate to gaming. But because of certain changes of plans, I stay in Sweden, and have been focusing on getting my stream up, and practice gaming seriously. I'm really happy about Memento approaching me with this opportunity. I can't wait to attend another LAN event playing the game I've loved for more than half of my life.
I will do my best to perform at my highest level and at the same time put on a great show up and until the actual event in July. I hope you all look forward as much as me to this, and also hope that you all will join me on this journey! Let's do this!
It's been increasingly harder for me to travel to events in the recent years, but I still would like to support the scene. The best way I can is to help out players traveling to tournaments. Last year, I picked demon because he was showing good performance on faceit and I knew he had the time to prepare. This year I picked Fazz as he started his own streaming project and discussing with him he has shown strong motivation to prepare and do his best in Dallas.
What matters most to me is the ability of a player to take this opportunity seriously and give his best shot. My hope is that this will fuel energy into the online scene for the months before the tournament. The actual LAN performance is something harder to predict, but that's also the beauty of it. Overall, the more players attend it with a serious attitude, the better the show for everyone.

At the moment I'm using some Hanns-G 22inch 1680x1050 monitor that my brother left behind when he moved to Korea. Can't remember the model but I'm sure last time I looked at specs it has 5ms response time... probably more.
Anyway is it really worth me getting a 120/144hz monitor? I play a bit of Quakeworld, a bit of Reflex and every now and again Quakelive. Don't know if I play them enough to warrant buying a new monitor? Or does the 120hz make all the newer games smoother/better looking too? I'm under the impression you need to get the FPS to match or something.
Theres the Benq 2411 for about £230 an AOC one for £200 that I've seen. Or a 1080p/60hz/1ms monitor for about £110-120. Or make do with what I've got????????????
This subject has been beat to death. But time has passed and I enjoy hearing other peoples perspective on esr. You guys are pretty humorous as well as intelligent.
All the weapons in quake are situation specific and breath life into quake as much as the fluidity of movement. The tier level of weapons was essential for single player. Each new weapon you found made you feel much more empowered. In multiplayer it was all about acquiring the most powerful weapons asap, and in the QW days the weapons were the ingredients for a lethal adrenaline dance like no other game. The lightning gun and rocket launcher reigned supreme. Rockets hit for a possible 150dmg per second. LG could hit for a whopping 300dmg per second. http://wiki.quakeworld.nu/Lightning_Gun
Then of course, our beloved railgun came into the scene which changed the dynamic, but in a good way. No longer could a person run and hide without the likeliness of taking a 100 dmg blow from the railgun. The railgun added a more authoritative stance to the polished aimers of the game. It's cooldown made for an effective vulnerability but it dished out when used wisely and confidently. A new situation specific weapon that was very much welcomed.
As most of us know, the weapons have taken a bit of change over the years but mostly in the QL years. Q3 had an 8dmg per bolt which fired 20 bolts per second, a maximum of 160dmg a second. This was an extreme change but the lg was still as effective as QW. One might say QW's weapons were too lethal, and that's a fair point. I personally loved QW's method but Q3 was refreshing change considering it's rate of fire being much quicker. This was the trend that was followed since, faster rate of fire, less cool down time and less dmg.
QL's method isn't something I could label as wonderful, nor do I dislike it absolutely. I'm in between. Nevertheless, I find myself longing for 7dmg LG and I miss the lethal feeling of 100dmg railgun with longer cooldown. Seemed more beefy that way.
At the 30% accuracy thresh-hold you empty just about all your LG bolts into one opponent. I think newcomers feel pushed away by this. They rage almost always after getting dominated by strong LG players. That's been common since Q3, but it hasn't always taken so long to be dominated; it's dramatic. Quicker death = less time to feel indignation. Longer death = over dramatic and more time to feel helpless and frustrated. Again, players with strong LG have always raged newcomers, but i can't help but feel that it's nerf was a bad decision for both perspectives.
There is much more I could say about other weapons (I miss ssg) that came and went but I'll leave it there. How do you guys feel about the changes to weapons over the years?

I try attempt ultrasmooth demos in q3 and ql many time, but do not have results even in offline mode demo recording. This eliminates the cause of the quality of Internet connection. and it points to the fact that my problem of not knowing the correct settings.
I have tried many combinations of settings in the game configs q3 and ql in offline and online modes. These settings are: com_maxfps, sv_fps,snaps,rate, cl_maxpackets, g_synchronousclients,cl_packetdup, in_mouse, m_filter, cg_filter_angles, cg_smoothclients.
I have a fairly powerful computer for q3 and ql, so the problem is not in the low power of my pc. I have a stable 250 fps in the game, rarely drop below 250 fps for unknown reasons.
I experimented myt demos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW2dhQubFfk, and realized that the player has smooth demo, I was not able to achieve the same smooth video in same videorecord config for my demos recording even in offline mode.
The popular science-entertainment programme featuring Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage is taking a wild turn, next week's special will give the universe of Doom a shot - debunking myths for your ever present pestering questions. How does a BFG actually work? How can I survive on another planet? How do I get rid of those pesky satanic aliens?
The team will be joined by id Software's own Tim Willits, the show will be hosted on the Discovery Channel at 08:00 CST, 31 January 2015. The team will use the Doom 3 BFG edition as a reference point.
Rumors has it that this could hint on a new Doom release date, maybe Bethesda has something in the oven and they're using this event to promote their upcoming title. Those who preordered Wolfenstein: The New Order should be the first to receive their beta keys, as stated in the previous Doom 4 announcement.
I'm not big fan of moba games. Also in my oppinion threre is no reaon to play team-based games a lot if you don't have a team...
I quite like dota 2 or csgo but without proper team is not that good. That's why I pretty like Hots and it's casual (?) way.
- matches are short
- heroes from blizzard universe
- skins, not that important, but much better than other moba games
- i don't really care if I win or lose
- matches are more even, I think
- easier to make 'comeback' than other moba games
- good to play short match after work
- more team based? less carry based?
Seems to be more casual than other games, but who cares.
any1 play it?

I have installed minqlbot to manage my server. The main reason for the bot was to create an 'elo gateway' so that only players with an elo between say 1400 and 1800 were allowed to connect. My own elo is in the 1600 range so this seemed like a reasonable place to start. The bot seems to work but the elo restriction function doesn't. In the config file the variables called MinimumRating and MaximumRating determine the elo gateway. I have set these but to no avail? Has anyone else had experience with this bot and knows how to configure this aspect? Also someone mentioned another server management bot called mitchbot.
Where do I get mitchbot as I could not find it with Google. Do I have the correct spelling? The reason for installing Minobot was because I'm T3 one day and T4 the next. I used to use skill matching but my server would end up with many 2000+ elo players. Sometimes even 2300+! The skill range in T4 is far to great for an average player like myself. An elo gateway seems much more sensible as the skill range would be more limited. Any help in sorting out the elo problem with Minobot or a link to mitchbot would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Contemplating having a bit of a PC upgrade.
Budget £500 and with that I just need a mobo/cpu/gpu/psu
Pretty certain I'll go for a Corsair semi-modular PSU but if there's something better...
I have a m-atx case, 1 ssd, 1 hdd, 8gb corsair vengeance ram and Asus Xonar sound card to use with it.
I might spend about another £100 ish to get a new case and a 1tb hybrid drive to replace the old hdd and just fancy a new case.
8gb ram will be fine for a while wont it?

Have you ever tried to come to the gym and immediately lift 170 pounds post?
- Why are new to the game is to get on the strong opponents?
- Why is the game allows it?
- Why are next to each nickname in the game do not have his ELO?
- Why all the players have to download scripts from the internet to see the ELO?
- Why do I need qlranks.com? You can simply tie ELO next to each nickname.
3. Referring to the experience of other online games. What is needed Quake. Screenshots examples.. plz download and put in thread

I pre ordered the Ninox Aurora back in november. While my order got paused for the massdrop, I finally got a supportticket answer that my mouse was being sent.
Unfortunately for me, the package got lost somewhere between in UK, Denmark or Sweden. Amazon, which handles the delivery, takes no responsibility as they respond 'talk to the seller' and none of the above mentioned countries postal service can actually say where the package is. UK say it passed on to Denmark, first call to Swedish postal service says it is in Denmark,Denmark says it is in Sweden and second call to Sweden is responded with that it isn't in Sweden and not in Denmark. In short, I'm screwed and they all tell me 'talk to the seller'.
All that said, I cannot get hold of anyone at Ninox. Multiple tickets at their homepage when logged in doesn't get an answer. Mailing Ninox have yet to render me an answer either. PM'ing BST on Reddit doesn't have any effect and I cannot PM on this page (I'm not allowed to yet or something along those lines).
The answer I end up with is that I am screwed by Ninox for 50 Euro (price+delivery+taxes) and I have to deal with it.
Does anyone else have any idea what I can do to get myself the money back or the mouse itself?
TL;DR Paid for Ninox Aurora, it never came, possibly lost in delivery somewhere in Europe and Ninox will not respond. 50 euro lost. Halp.
I've played high sens for nearly 10 years now and only very recently have I realised that a lot of professional gamers play at low sensitivity. To provide an approximation, 2.5cm-3cm is what it takes for a 360. My accuracy averages at 20%-22% from overall gameplay, some games peak up to 35%. In pub games, I generally tend to come first.
My question is, is it worth to switch over (gradually or almost instantaneously) to low sensitivity? Will my in-game performance gradually get better?
To provide some context to why I ask this now is recently I have been wanting to purchase a mouse pad, and only then has this made me become more 'competitive' in a way and hence I wish advantage myself in every way possible. So, yes, I have never used a mousepad and am still unsure if I even need one. So far, looking at the QcK / Goliathus pads.

Keep exploring the same concept of item combination while trying to keep the map compact and somewhat optimized for reflex movement, quite a few easy and progressively harder jumps, Im afraid that if you're new to the reflex you will have hard time on this map.
Is it possible somehow, while watching a demo, see which movement keys are pressed at all times.
Ive seen this on the defrag live streams and i know its possible ingame. But is it also possible while watching a demo of another player
If not possible then what is the best way to improve my dodgeing and infight movement

Wrote a small greasemonkey script to move around new comments faster with ctrl+up and ctrl+down. It's similar to a script posted by simonov http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=2225035 , but without animations.
Tested on firefox with greasemonkey.
I'm proud to announce the release of Quake Live Demo Tools 1.2.1.
This is the same QLDT you used to use and love, now with support for new Quake Live demo format (dm_90), playback in the standalone QL (including Steam version) and better integration of WolfcamQL, along with other long awaited fixes.
For those who have never used it before - QLDT is a program allowing quick navigation and playback of QL demos from your collection, complete with features to search for frag streaks, specific frags or things said in chat. With just a few mouse clicks, you can cut short snippets from your demos.
Each country should have top 8 to participate or qualifications for top8. Winner of each country should get 100$ and spot to finals.
Wouldn't a heavy mouse offer more control over a very light mouse as you are less likely to over compensating aim. I have a g100s and removed the weight and replaced the mouse feet and I'm wondering if it was the wrong choice. It's almost like it's hard to aim pixel perfect now because a little to much force can cause my aim to be off where as with a heavy mouse and a slow glide I had more feedback from my mouse movements.

The first show match from DuelCup.com will feature Davis vs ZorakWar in a seven map series. All maps will be played and each map is worth $5 USD. Donations can be made to increase the prize pool by clicking the donate button on our stream. This will be the first of many weekly events brought to you by duelcup.com in 2015 so be sure to follow the media links below to stay up on what's happening... and as always Thank you for Quaking!
$10 - evilbollweevil
$20 - rauvz (requested that $10 be given to each player)
Thank you to those who donated towards the show match! The total prize pool was brought from $35 to $45, and rauvz gave each player $10 as well :) You all are awesome!
Can we finally accept that listening to organisers who wanted to reduce costs, and the money hungry egos of a few top players all demanding duel was the way forward, COMPLETELY and UTTERLY KILLED the game?!
LoL has shown the world that team games are where it's at, but hey we didn't even need that. The intelligent few among us have been saying for maybe a decade or more that focusing on duel was a mistake.
Nobody plays duel. It kills the community. No community means no players. No players means no audience. No audience means no sponsors. No sponsors means no money. No money means no events. No events means no interest. No interest means no further development.
Sure we all enjoy the show-piece of duel. Two of the best players fighting it out so we can name a BEST INDIVIDUAL PLAYER. But in reality it’s just like the ballon d'or in football. It's vanity.
So Fatal1ty got rich. Good for him. But Quake is dead.
Having a shitty stream every weekend showcasing the same 20 players will not build a game. It will KILL IT. We all mocked painkiller because nobody wanted to play it. But did anybody really think why? Was it really because it was a buggy game? No. It was because it was all focused on duel. 90% of people do not want to play duel.
Most people have an ability to be social. Most want to play with friends. Most don't want the insane pressure of everything being down to them.
Think of every arena shooter that has been made off the back of Quake. They all focus on duel and they all FAIL. Reflex will fail too.
Please all you duel supporters WAKE UP that YOU have killed quake. The major mistake id made was to listen to the community and focus on duel. Quake SHOULD BE A TEAM FOCUSED GAME. Just like LoL or CSGO are that are now killing it once a broader audience has access to watch.
I hate every one of you duel only supporters that killed my game.
Duel should actually be removed completely and the development team for the next quake should focus around a single team mode. Something with an objective that sets a focus on the viewpoint.

A 2D platform fighter where the best of the baddest-ass warriors in history battle each other in an eternal tourney of champions for bragging rights, infinite mead, and the pure pleasure of delivering a beatdown. Brawlhalla is a fast-paced, super fun, brawl and fall fighting game that we've been loving the heck out of here in the office. Now we need your help!
When the final version launches it will include:
Online Team Brawl - The most popular format, two teams of up to four warriors face off in a frenetic, no holds barred brawl.
4 Player Online Free for All - Ranked or casual matches where four fighters enter, but only one can win.
Local Free for All - Up to 4 players can play in free for all mode on one computer - perfect for friendly face-offs.
Local Custom Teams - Team-up on your local machine, by adding up to 4 bots into the mix for living-room level mayhem.
- Why would we care if esports is actually considered a "sport" in the traditional sense?
- I don't think the whole "esports" discussion makes sense. People like specific games. Some more than 1 but very few like the WHOLE of esports.
- Games change all the time to be completely different. Sports do not. There is no applicable history to be built if they change often, so I think it will be hard to build a lifetime fan like you would in a sport.
- The growth and money seems more to do with broadcasting (Why did we pick Quake to stream and why did we quit!) and twitch of which many major broadcasts could be considered casual gaming. So isn't it more about entertainment than competition now. 'Big Brother' is technically a competition, but 99% of the show is just about entertainment (debatable).
I previously used the Samsung S23A700D, a glossy 120Hz that somehow performed well in the aspects of Hz, input lag, and image quality. Does anyone here know a monitor similar to this? The ASUS VG248QE is popular but I read that there are potentially BAD problems, like its backlight bleeding and poor color quality. I don't want need IPS-level colors, just decent ones like in the S23A700D.
I don't want a CRT.

Refex developers released a rather hefty update that plays a vital role in online FPS titles. - the netcode has been reworked, Ion Cannon (The quake lightning gun equivalent) damage has been lowered from 9 to 7 along with its knockback, spawn system has changed, hit sounds have been updated and plenty bugs were squashed. A snippet from the overview dealing with netcode
"The new Reflex netcode uses a combination of extrapolation and backwards reconciliation in attempt to keep what you're seeing consistent across clients and servers. This lag compensation has an upper limit of 80ms -- if you have more than an 80ms ping, you'll need to lead by ping - 80ms. I.e, if your ping is 100ms, you'll need to lead by 20ms.
Our backwards reconciliation has the same limit -- if your enemy has a ping of over 80ms, they won't be able to shoot you from 500ms in the past."
You are welcome to give it a shot, report feedback to developers and let them know how the netcode feels right now - if you're pinging below 80 it should be quite noticeable.
The new Reflex netcode uses a combination of extrapolation and backwards reconciliation in attempt to keep what you're seeing consistent across clients and servers.
This lag compensation has an upper limit of 80ms -- if you have more than an 80ms ping, you'll need to lead by ping - 80ms. I.e, if your ping is 100ms, you'll need to lead by 20ms.
Our backwards reconciliation has the same limit -- if your enemy has a ping of over 80ms, they won't be able to shoot you from 500ms in the past.
We use these upper limits to avoid the drawbacks of each. For example, with extreme extrapolation values, you get error prone, warpy players. With extreme backwards reconciliation, you get laggy enemies shooting you long after you were safely behind a wall. In Reflex, these drawbacks are minimized.
We have several ideas which we'd like to investigate in the future which would further improve the netcode (notably client-side knockback prediction, client-side prediction of projectiles and compression). These features will require significant research and testing so for now, we're going to focus on other areas of the game.
We've had very good reports from our private testers with this netcode and we are open to any feedback you have. We are gamers too and we'd like the best possible solution for everyone!
Overview (for server admins):
The new netcode uses more CPU than previous versions so keep an eye on your CPU load (especially when running multiple servers on a single box).
We've increased sv_fps to 70 so bandwidth requirements have (almost) doubled.
Client crash at end of connecting to server.
Animations aren't working correctly with extraploation
Players can push dead players around
Pickups can block jumppads/teleports/otherpickups
Players take 1 tick of damage on respawn after dying in lava
Players in lagstate freeze in mid air
Removed com_idlesleep command
Improved connection stability client<->server (should fix issue with clients getting dumped from local server)
Implemented lag state. If client stops responding, they go into a lag state, when the return, they do a small download to catch back up to game. This also fixes disconnection issues when map is undergoing many simultaneous edits.
Increased default (and recommended) sv_fps to 70
Reduced Ion Cannon damage (from 9 to 7)
Reduced Ion Cannon knockback (from 1.1 to 0.5)
Added per-weapon death messages
Added combat text for damage
Added Aerowalk/CPM22 greybox (thanks to Hubster and Preacher for letting us include this)
Added DP4 community map
Added XADM1 community map
Added end-game camera to xadm1
Added biased random spawns
Added player joined / left arena messages to HUD
Fixed pain effect particles based on damage
Toned back IC impact effects
Updated hit sounds
Updated player landing sounds
Fixed problems with hit sounds not always being audible
Adjusted damage ranges for hit sounds
Smoothing on local client (aka error decay), this signficantly reduces local player jitter when knocked around
Lava damage now done when first entering lava, not after delay
Fixed client side prediction of pickups, previously if you stood on pickup when it spawned, it would keep spawning on your local client even though not really there on server.
Fixed potential server lockup with grenade trajectory
Fixed very rare gamestate delta bug where variables wern't synced to client, will increase server CPU load though :(
Fixed crash bug which occurred when spectating a client that disconnected (if they were the only other client)
Fixed bug with server projectiles going through players (this also appeared as grenades boucning off other players on the client).
Removed double jump flag on spawn
+commands work on mousewheel now
Clamped outgoing packets to 125 (previously it was unclamped, so at 1000fps you'd send 1000 packets/second)
Created internal damage entity to help report damage type / amount etc in a more consistent way
Ion cannon hit beeps now correctly reported at higher pings
Damage numbers now displayed on screen.
Damage numbers for SG / burstgun are grouped together and displayed in one number, currently toggleable via cl_text_group
Added custom death messages by damage type
The hostile pain sound is now only applied once when all 16 shotgun pellets hit one target
Built lagmeter to help debug spikes cl_show_lagmeter 1
Scene delay is how far behind the server your client view is.
Extrapolation is how far ahead of time your client pushed the view
Built traffic meter to help debug trafic use cl_show_traffic 1
Shows outgoing traffic in red, incoming traffic in green
Shows dropped/missing packets in both directions (missing sent packets is only known once server informs you)
Plain as day in Saudi Arabia. QL is a mockery to its predecessors. What will the devs do to rekindle the fire?
Personally couldn't care less. I took a year off and came back to a steam release that further drowned the potential this project has. There may still be hope, but maybe not. You can't have an abortion after nine months of pregnancy.
Your move now. Better do something incredible. Good luck.

Today we are very excited to give you the next iteration of Xonotic, the free and fast arena shooter. Yep, you guessed it: Xonotic 0.8.0 is out! This version is the culmination of months of effort from many individuals from across the globe. It contains improvements in just about all visible aspects of the game and onto the web. There are new menu screens, gameplay features, and a much-anticipated new weapon: the Arc! We’re excited for the what the future holds, and we hope to see you out on the servers soon. Happy fragging!
Here are some features to get you excited while you wait:
Catharsis, Implosion, and VorixWe have three new maps for the “Capture The Flag” game mode. Catharsis, by Justin, is an indoor map with a central, violent focal point. Plus, it has crystals! Implosion, by MintOX, is a space floater with fantastic jump pads for a lot of midair fun. It also has a perilous lower infrastructure for you risky cappers out there. Vorix, by packer, is an open-air indoor arena with beautifully designed corridors. Watch out for its lava pits though!
Archer has been hard at work making immersive sounds for the game. His latest track is called X-Force, which can be found on Implosion. Nice!
Melanosuchus created a wonderful way to add variety to your server: a game type vote screen! This feature allows server administrators to allow their players to choose the game mode used in the next map. It is shown before the map vote screen.
Stats menu integration
The menu system went through some major updates. It now sports a tiered server browser that categorizes the available servers so you can choose the right one for you. Player statistics are also integrated. Accessible via the “profile” tab, you can now view your most vital statistics from XonStat without having to open a web browser. Lots of other menu options have moved to the forefront as well. All of these changes are to help you configure Xonotic to your taste easily.
All of our builds have switched to using the latest-and-greatest major version of the SDL: version 2.0. This version brings with it several performance improvements and a ton of new capabilities.
A brand new weapon concept: the Arc! Similar to lightning guns in other games, the Arc is a hitscan weapon with medium range. It shoots a bendable beam of electricity as its primary fire and has a burst mode as its secondary fire. It has a limited capacity and thus overheats after too much constant use, so administer your damage with care! The Arc is available to server administrators who choose to enable it. It will take its place as a Xonotic core weapon in the next release.
The physics and weapon balance have both been tweaked after a long round of feedback from the community. Many settings were taken from sessions on the “Reversion cup” servers, and a great many of games were had in the process! The weapon balance is the first step in a large re-tooling of the weapon system. Look for more updates coming soon.
This release introduces monsters! We have five different types of monsters for you to frag: Zombie, Wyvern, Mage, Spider and Shambler. Mario created a new game mode called “Invasion” that uses these monsters. In this mode the player must fight off a swarm of the aforementioned monsters within a small arena to win.
New powerup-like items called buffs can now spawn on maps if enabled. They can replace the existing powerups or spawn in random locations. Buffs give players special powers when picked up, and they last until the player is fragged. Adding these to servers is sure to turn up thier craziness level to 11!
If you already have Xonotic, upgrade to the release with these steps:
- Navigate to your Xonotic installation folder.
- Navigate to the misc/tools/rsync-updater folder.
- Execute the update-to-release.sh (for Linux or Mac) or update-to-release.bat (for Windows) and wait for it to complete.
- Profit. You're done!
so for the last 3 months or so every now and then i will get kicked out of a duel server regardless of location or ownership, then i cant reconnect to that server for about half an hour. it doesnt do it to any other game modes. ive spoken to a few people about it and some get it some dont. im wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that im still playing on the standalone and not through steam and are punishing me as such! is anyone else having this problem???

This morning in IRC I was being random and i was using haiku poems to answer and comment. Why? I don't know ... moving on! At some point the poems began to take on a Quake theme, and this little gem was discovered.
All times aggressive
You must choose situations
I am talking it
Before I am called out on it I admit that the original quote used for the middle line should contain "have to" instead of "must"... and if you have a problem with it all I have to say is:
You cannot resist
Determined to reply first
Thank you for making my day cooller =)
(For those who may not know a haiku is a Japanese poem consisting of three lines. The first and last lines have five syllables and the middle has seven)

I want to replace the G1 that I've been using since 2008. A friend of mine has an MX300 sitting around that he is willing to sell. If you were to make a purchase, would you buy the MX300 or go with the newly released Aurora? What it boils down to is a reliable sensor with prediction vs taking a gamble and hoping I receive an Aurora without problems (based on the feedback from bst's PART 3 post) . Any feedback is greatly appreciated
MX300 = $20 USD, used briefly, but still in its box
Aurora = $45 USD, Amazon
