R.I.P. James Gandolfini (1 comment)
Posted by jetro @ 07:56 BST, 20 June 2013 - iMsg
Seems like he passed away last night...:

James Gandolfini -- who famously played Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos" -- died earlier today in Italy ... TMZ has learned.

Gandolfini is believed to have suffered a heart attack. He was 51.

Gandolfini was in Italy to attend the 59th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily -- and he was scheduled to participate in a festival event this weekend with Italian director Gabriele Muccino.

Gandolfini shot to fame playing a hitman in the 1993 hit "True Romance" ... and quickly became a Hollywood legend when he was cast as Tony Soprano in 1999. He won 3 Emmy awards for the role during the show's 6 season run.

Quake 1 maps for Q4 (No comments)
Posted by deadcenter @ 23:22 BST, 19 June 2013 - iMsg
I knew nothing about mapping 3 months ago, and only learned it because I wanted to play these old school Quake maps again.

Thought I would post them here for anyone who may be interested.

Feedback welcome and encouraged! :)

Quake 1 - DM4 "The Bad Place"
Quake 1 - DM6 "The Dark Zone"

Screenshots of DM4: http://imgur.com/a/A6LOR#1

I used the original GPL'd source maps as a base, then scaled and modified them to fit Q4 movement, speed, and game play.

For DM4, I went with a modern space theme. It feels like a space station. The mega health room is the docking area for supply craft.

For DM6, I went with a traditional dark/evil theme. Simple, and effective.

I'm officially done with thunderstruck (17 comments)
Posted by He4rTL3sS @ 20:21 BST, 19 June 2013 - iMsg
Okay guys, I think that the era of being #1 at thunderstruck is now over. I won't play thunderstruck anymore.

Starting from now on, I will practice either quakelive duel or starcraft 2 duel.

Remember some months ago when I said this already ? This time I will promise that I won't come back to thunderstruck, you can trust me on this one. I'm not #1 at thunderstruck anymore, but at least I did it. Not so much people can pretend to be #1. But like I said, I did it. I'm now too old to keep my title. I will let the new generation of quakers to battle for being #1, but for me, it's over... definitely over.

I officially retire from thunderstruck.

I'm looking for duel partners, and maybe a mentor who could help me to figure out my mistakes while playing duel. If you are ~1500 elo at duel, you can add me at quakelive.com. If you are around 1800-1900 elo, maybe you could help me to improve at duel, and give me advices and stuff.

I already have rzd, baksteen, szr, latrommi, strenx, gismo as quakelive friends. I will probably ask them for some advices and practice sessions. But I would like to have someone who could dedicate his time for me. Like, playing against me 4-5 times a week, and analyze each game. Like I said, someone at 1800-1900 elo would be ideal.

CU AT BLOODRUN GUYS HF!

help me pick a mouse please <3 (7 comments)

so i used ambi mice when i was younger (wmo, 1.1, an ms blue) and then eventually switched to ms 3.0 and stuck to right handed mice ever since. i really loved the original EC2 because of the sensor regardless of the prediction but i had 2 mousewheels break and decided to start using an ikari optical which had the same sensor i used the ikari for a while but the mouse4 placement is annoying and it's kind of on the heavy side so i bought an ec2 evo. i love the shape of the ec2 but still hate the mousewheel, i bought a g400 to tryout and it seems heavier than the 518 and 500 so i'm not a big fan of it either although the sensor is perfectly fine to me. so now i'm still using the ec2 evo and i just hate the mousewheel so much. is there any mouse that is right handed with little to no positive accel with a nice mousewheel that is light =0? i also have pretty small hands!

i have been using a sensei raw because i used ambi mice before but it seems like it makes my hand cramp like crazy -_-

Legal Weed (10 comments)
Posted by G.I. Jonesy @ 09:05 BST, 19 June 2013 - iMsg
As most people now know, weed was recently legalized in Washington state. Next time you're here, you might be interested in trying legal weed. The shops will not be opened until next year, but when the time comes, be sure to look for the legal weed logo. Yes, the state has developed a logo denoting official legal weed.

Every state in the union has a nickname. For example, Tennessee is called 'The Volunteer State', and Texas is called the 'Lone Star State'. Washington just happens to be called 'The Evergreen state'. I suppose, it's because of all the tree's, but now, it has a different meaning.

So that you can familiarize yourself with Washington and it's legal weed commerce, the logo can be found here. When you're driving around or hanging out with a friend who lives here, you may see the logo and wonder what the fuck it is. Now you know.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Question on Resolution & Screen Size (9 comments)
Posted by tsipouro @ 03:15 BST, 19 June 2013 - iMsg
I have been playing for years on a notebook, but recently bought a PC. The new screen is bigger and I started playing with a higher resolution (A neat ql-cfg looks incredible like this). Besides that I kept all settings the same (fov, pitch/yaw/sens/accel). On the one hand I am now for the first time on 120hz and together with bigger screen my aim got a bit better. But the general in-game-feel is very mushy and I can't really move well (it doesn't feel comfortable and I have less speed and less dodging), while on the notebook I have a very sharp and accurate feeling while playing. How come? Is it just because I am not used to the new setup or do I have to adjust some settings in my cfg to make the bigger screen/higher resolution-thing work for me? In other words: Does screensize or resolution have an influence on how sens/accel work out?
If I could bring the comfortable feeling and sharp feeling from the notebook to the better screen and combine it with the accuracy that comes with it, I would be in quake-heaven.

Hey guys. Starting a new analysis series and I thought some of you may be interested.

You can find out more here

It's a bit long and I hope to make the future ones more concise and more indepth, hopefully no longer than 15-20 minutes.

Anyway, leave some feedback, I'm always looking to improve and I hope you enjoy!

EDIT: Do you, denizens of ESReality, think this is newspost worthy? I am pretty terrible with plugging my own stuff, but it'd definitely get more visibility there.

k1llsen vs strenx@125FPScup (27 comments)
Posted by [squirrel] @ 23:35 BST, 18 June 2013 - iMsg
What do you think, who will win?

If strenx wouldn't play shootmania that often, it would be clear who would win this, bacause as far as I can remember, strenx almost always was winning against k1llsen before shootmania come out. (I guess at that time, strenx was almost unbeatable).

But as you all remember, last month at 125FPS cup k1llsen got up to semifinals, while strenx lost on the way(?). Moreover, if you would check QLranks, the last time they met (that was more than 3 weeks ago) k1llsen won 9 their games of 13 played.

I had put by bet on k1llsen this time, but I really doubt my choise. Even though k1llsen may be in a good shape, I would say that the mappool favors strenx play style more (my guesses are that ztn(strenx) and dm13(k1llsen) will be dropped by them. That leaves with hektik, t4, aero, t7 and dm6, on which strenx feels great (I dunno about hektik and t4 though). In addition, I would say that k1llsen struggles against an lg heavy player, even though he has solid aim.

This will be definitely a great and close match to watch, but I believe you can already tell who will win, but I can't decide, who has the advantage over the other.

Intel HD 4000 and Quakelive (17 comments)

Hi!

Just wondering if anyone knows how Quakelive runs with an standard Intel HD 4000 gfx card?

I use a quite tweaked high fps config.

EDIT: Maybe someone can even recommend a laptop? I'm looking for one which is mainly meant to be used for uni/work.. However it has to run QL 125 fps stable and it must be possible to plugin external CRT to have 120 hz!

CPM fragmovie of frags by Germany sbs.

The creator, United States of America lolograde has a history of releasing CPM movies, as this is his third after Huge Tits: a N.A. Fragmovie and Chicken Tetrazini.

It also can be noted that England 8bitlobster's Claw & Order 2: Bad Juju can be found an inspiration for this movie.

Please note that if you enjoy the fragmovie, downloading it is a better option, since streams lower the quality by definition (and it was the author's wishes to not upload to Youtube as it would have problems with the soundtrack and blocking). Enjoy!

Tutorial on setting up FragTV (15 comments)
Posted by apparition_ @ 21:16 BST, 17 June 2013 - iMsg
Okay so here's a tutorial I created on how to setup FragTV properly. It's a bit complicated but as long as you follow it you should get it to work.

To watch live demos:

1. Download the FragTV client and server here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fragtv/

2. Next you will go to your download location find the zip file you downloaded and extract it to wherever.

3. You will now open up the folder from the zip named “FragTV” and load up the FragTV.exe file. You will click on the Channel tab and type in the IP address + the port in the address box, and type the name that you wish in the Name box. For example, the Qlranks' address is 86.146.12.145:80 so you would copy that and put it into the Address entry box, and then enter in your own name. We don't need to mess around with the MOTD channel since it isn't needed to watch the demos. Now click on the Wolfcam tab, and then click on Browse and find wolfcamql.exe. This can be done by finding your wolfcam folder (here is the link for the people who do not have wolfcam: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wolfcamql/fil...p/download). Once you have downloaded or found the wolfcam zip file, extract it and open the wolfcam folder (should be called wolfcam9.11 if it's been updated), open it and click wolfcamql.exe and then click open. You should now see the path. If you wish to test it to make sure that it works, click on Test Execute. If you've loaded the path correctly, the test should load up wolfcam and let you play in wolfcam. Next to start watching the live demo, go into the Channel tab, click on the name you entered, and then click on Connect. A twitch stream and chat popout, and wolfcam should load up with the demo.

To set up your own server so people can watch your demos live:

1. Download the FragTV client and server here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fragtv/

2. Next you will go to your download location find the zip file you downloaded and extract it to wherever.

3. Load up your FragTV folder. You will now load up the FragTVserver.exe file. At the moment, I'm not sure what the Live tab does except pop out your twitch video and the chat for twitch. I also didn't mess around with the MOTD edit since it isn't needed for the basic setup. You will now go to the “Network” tab and type in the IP address of your PC into the Local IP entry box. (If you do not know what your IP is and you are using windows 7, go to Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet, and then click View network status and tasks. You will now go to Local Area Connection, click on Details and go to your address box. After you find the IP address, you can type it into the Local IP entry box of the FragTVserver.exe.) Now you will need to forward the port 80 to your IP address. (If you do not know about port forwarding, I suggest googling it up or searching about it on youtube). After you have forwarded the port click on Listen. If you've successfully forwarded the port to your IP, the red dot near the Network tab should turn from red to green, and the Network status should say, The server is running on IP________.
4. Next click on the Game tab. You will need to find your baseq3 folder, and then browse for it using the “Browse” button, find the folder, and then open it. Now click on the demos folder, and select folder open. Click on Start scanner to start scanning for a new demo to load up. If you selected the correct folder, the red dot should also turn green. (If you don't know how to find your baseq3 folder, I recommend reading on this forum: http://www.quakelive.com/forum/showthread.php...-directory)

5. Click on the Sync Helper tab. Click on Show. If this has worked, the red dot should also turn green, and it should load up the Sync Helper Window (which can be minimized).

6. If all the tabs have green dots, and you have enabled the recording of demos in Quake Live, you should be all set! You will need to give your public IP and the port you forwarded to other people so that they can watch your demos live. For example, if your public IP address was 68.5.12.145 and the port you forwarded was 80, you would give this to other people: 68.5.12.145:80 (In order to find your public IP address, you could just google, “What is my IP address?” and it should tell you.)

Testing Dual POV in QL (17 comments)
Posted by easytarget @ 19:34 BST, 17 June 2013 - iMsg
Well with the release of FragTV it got me thinking about the whole duel POV for viewers and I came up with this little tidbit. The one is slightly delayed by like a 1000 of a second. I played around with the sound settings towards the end of the second match. Would this be something that you would be interested in seeing?? Maybe with a slightly different format obviously this is just a test but want to get feed back on it.

Tell me what you guys think?? Namco_ vs c0ff33p0t Thanks for playing a few while I tested this out guys.

Also tried some Picture in Picture!! Which I think is a much better option for QL PiP

timeouts for cups (2 comments)
Posted by sulit @ 04:15 BST, 17 June 2013 - iMsg
do you think there should be less timeouts allowed for players in each series? i know it sucks if you have connection problems. but if you have bad conneciton, you should not play in the cup plain and simple. that only deteriorates the other competitors experience. watching the faceit finals today led me to asking this question.

one timeout is enough. if you lag on game, take time in between maps to fix your connection and to make sure no one is downloading anything while you are playing. or w.e it is

How to make youtube+twitch not suck (9 comments)

came across this earlier today: http://mitchribar.com/2013/02/how-to-stop-you...ws-guide/. Haven't got a chance to test it out yet tho. Youtube has been major suckage for me lately so I hope it fixes the lag there for me. Twitch has been flawless for me the last few months but I've heard lots of euros complaining about the lag. Try it out maybe, the comments on the page sound promising.

Logitech G400 - Causes me cramps. (22 comments)

I really don't like the shape of this mouse.... its shaped like a contorted bean and forces your hands to cramp up... this causes me a great deal of pain. Why can't Logitech make normally shaped mice? All the other companies make mice with normal shapes.

Also the mouse is too heavy - it literally makes my arms burn trying to pick up this mouse... I am definitely returning it and going back to the WMO.

[userscript] qlping, ql ping utility (60 comments)
Posted by simonov @ 11:24 BST, 16 June 2013 - iMsg
In two words: you can now see your ping to quakelive servers on quakelive.com website.

Features
Locations tab in "Play Online" section: all quakelive servers sorted by ping. Right click Locations tab and click "Refresh Locations" to redo ping measurement of all servers. Last four ping results of a server are displayed as a tooltip to ping value.

Server tooltip is extended with ping information: mouseover interesting server and you will see your ping there. Ping icon is green when ping is lower than 45 ms, yellow if lower than 75 ms and red if ping is more than 75 ms.

Right click your friend in quakelive contact list and select "Send my locations" to send info about your nearest locations. When your friend has the same script and replies with his location info, his script automatically recommends servers based by the minimal ping differences. Servers with ping more than 100 ms are not considered as a recommendation. BTW, if you come up with more efficient server recomendation algorithm, I am open for suggestions.

Also, if your friend does not have qlping installed, he can just write in chat, for example, "UKR 30 ms, GER 50 ms", and when you send him your location info, your qlping script will also calculate recommendations.

Installation
In order to use this script, you have to install small and simple web browser plugin first, which makes UDP requests to servers. This plugin works only on www.quakelive.com page, other pages cannot access it (made that because of security consideratons). Installation is simple, instead of just userscript you install plugin and userscript.

Userscript link.

Marijuana Laws (37 comments)
Posted by G.I. Jonesy @ 23:37 BST, 15 June 2013 - iMsg
The only remaining argument the anti-marijuana people seem to have, is that there is a tiny fraction of increased mental illness risk associated with using marijuana during one's developmental years. Needless to say, it is one of the dumbest arguments ever constructed. It's like saying, because cars are dangerous when driven by 10 year-olds, it should be illegal for anyone to drive a car. Not to mention the fact that it is only an increased risk, and a very small increase at that. You could make a counter-argument that if you use marijuana during your developmental years, you will become President of the United States.

It's also bizarre to suggest that because something has the potential to cause illness or injury, it should be illegal. That's like saying sports should be illegal, because so many athletes sustain injuries. Furthermore, imprisonment is also an injury, so how is it an improvement to replace one injury with another? Either you're injured in the sport, or you're injured through imprisonment. It doesn't make sense. If the idea is to reduce illness and injury, then imprisoning and fining has the opposite effect.

The simple fact is that the anti-marijuana people are wrong. This is not a matter of your personal beliefs, this is a matter of the fact that 2+2=4. No matter what bullshit propaganda or nonsense reasoning you devise, 2+2 will always = 4. You're wrong, accept it, change the fucking laws, and let's move on to another issue.

FragTV beta release (139 comments)
Posted by MOS6581 @ 23:25 BST, 15 June 2013 - iMsg
FragTV is an open source, cross-platform "GTV/SourceTV/etc" for QuakeLive, broadcasting live games and synchronizing with live video feeds.

FragTV works alongside standard gaming streams. It has its own browser to provide commentary, show the stream between matches and run ads.

During matches game data will be transmitted live to all clients and WolfcamQL will play it as a normal demo that's still being recorded. Audio from the stream provides synchronized commentary thanks to a small barcode and the twitch chat rooms are parsed and relayed to the in-game chat frame.

QLRANKS.COM -> Demo uploading (107 comments)
Posted by sirax @ 16:00 BST, 14 June 2013 - iMsg
We're now collecting duel demos (other game types coming soonish) for any ranked match in the qlranks.com database. The aim is to create a permanent repository of quakelive demos.

The QLRANKSTV bot automatically updates the players it spectates at the end of a match, then uploads the demo to qlranks.com

If you would like to upload demos to the site it can be performed via two ways:

http://www.qlranks.com/demo/upload/ - Self explanatory.

The other method is via the QLRanks demo uploading tool -> https://sourceforge.net/projects/qlrdemouploader/

This is an open source application (feel free to tear it apart, I wrote it yesterday in a few hours) that will do a number of things.

1. If you drag files into the main window, and click process queue, it will upload the demos.

2. If you enable it, it will monitor your quakelive demo folder and automatically upload new demos as they are created (after the match finishes). It will also automatically update the qlranks.com database for the players in the duel database. I.e. if you let it upload your demos it WILL automatically update your elo after every completed game.

Note - this application is exactly the same one that the TV bot uses.

I hope some people use this, particularly in tournaments/lans as it will make demos available immediately.

Quakecon 2013 - An Idea (77 comments)
Posted by ja ja ve ve @ 14:10 BST, 14 June 2013 - iMsg
Quakecon (ID) regularly shows no sign of attention or respects for the QL-Community.

They havent announced a map-pool yet
They havent announced a prize-pool yet
Last years stream was lacking most playoff-games

To sum it up, they dont really give a shit about the QL-community.

Why? They know that we are absolutely dependant. Because of that, players and spectators always have to give in.

So... how about we boycot quakecon?

How about no one attends the QL-tournament? I

I know this is virtually impossible since many people have already planned to go there.

But as a matter of fact, there is no better way to make them realize that we find their behaviour disrespectful.

Please feel free to discuss!

I'm due a new phone in a month or two and will probably be going for a HTC One or Samsung Galaxy s4.

Is it possible to use a torrent app to download movies/tv series etc and then play it using the phone via a hdmi cable to a TV in either SD/HD?
Under the impression that with an Android phone (app permiting) I would be able to pretty much do most stuff I can do on a PC, apart from gaming (although there are good mobile games) with the ability to output to my TV. Internet browsing, torrents, films, music and streams.

TWITCH COLLECTING INFOS ABOUT LAGS (4 comments)
Posted by nsx0r @ 18:46 BST, 13 June 2013 - iMsg
@Qun emitted the possibility that the growing number of people experiencing lag on Twitch might be due to ISP bandwidth throttling.

@TwitchSupport decided to collect infos to see if this is true, feel free to contribute in this simple form :

Get lag on Twitch? Help them collect info here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1oxZkfuuwZkou...Y/viewform

Again, it's NOT the streamer's fault NOR Twitch's (direct) fault, it probably is your ISP not wanting to spend too much bandwidth during internet rush hours, like a lot of them already do for YouTube for example (resulting in endless buffering).

If you plan to contact your ISP, ask them to "peer" (ie, direct connect) with Twitch.

I got this yesterday. It feels really nice, but it looks like crap. I saw it and some reviews and it looked like exactly what I wanted, but this is my first LCD monitor, so I didn't really have anything to compare it to, other than my perfect-technology CRT monitor.

It was worth the money, though I might look for a good IPS panel some time in the future. I don't know how I'll continue with my purchases and stuff; I'm thinking of getting a computer chassis first, but a second monitor would also be really nice.

Anway, this monitor definitely has good performance. I can feel the lack of bottlenecks; everything is as it should be. There's nothing holding me back from sucking at Quake any more. I can't recommend it because I've never used a [good] LCD monitor before, but take this as a positive comment, and a satisfied customer.

Posted by Nagato @ 02:56 BST, 13 June 2013 - iMsg
Hey, I recently bought a microsoft imo 1.1a (zowie edition) and have been using it for about 2 weeks now. I've noticed that whenever I lift up my mouse in the air (about 2 ft. above my mousepad), my character on screen starts shaking. When I lift it off my mouse pad it does this at almost any height at times. It even shakes when I face my mouse upwards. It shakes a lot more intensely when I quickly swipe my mouse and lift it off my mousepad.
Does this mouse just have a crazy high lift off distance or?

Greetings fellow quakers!

I was thinking the other day why not show the ESR-Logo-OrangeESR population what happens in a small quake community within a small country? So I decided to write a few lines about my people and how we enjoy the game.

When you address to a new group of people it is polite to introduce yourself, so I’ve been told :). In this note, my name is Alex, I just turned 28 and my role in our small community is to organize and admin cups, write news, articles and in general, represent the quake community when outside so called “esport” organizations have a proposal or interest in the quake scene. I’ve been playing quake for literally half of my life, it’s in my blood, I love this fucking game and I hope that I will always save some little time for it.

But enough with the “cool story bro” I guess most of you are in the same situation :), so let me tell you the story of my people :D.

We call ourselves the “Romania Romanian Quake League” :P and after a couple of online cups we decided to hold a LAN like in the good old days. The newschoolers of our community that came in contact with quake only from QuakeLive never went to LANs so we thought it will bring them joy and to be honest we also missed the LAN Party feeling :D.

With this in mind we searched for an internet caffe that could meet the necessary requirements (spots available, 120hz monitors etc) to hold a proper QuakeLive tournament.
We were lucky and we found such a place close to Bucharest downtown, with easy access for everyone. Everybody liked the place and the event so much that we decided to hold a second one. You would say that it wasn't a real LAN :) and you are right, but from the icaffe we pinged stable 5-6 ms to Bucharest servers so closest to lan conditions as possible.
Both of the tournaments had the same format and consisted in two cups: Duel and 2v2 CA (draft teams).

The first LAN event was held on the 15th of December 2012 and gathered 25 quakers from all over the country. But like they say a picture is worth a thousand words I’ll let the images speak.
Here you can find pictures from the RQL LAN #1.

The second LAN event was held in the same location on the 20th of April 2013 and like the first edition we filled all the spots at the icaffe. We have the pics to prove it right here :).

Demos from the semis and grand final can be found here.

We had prizes at every cup we held, but money is not important, we play for the love of the game :). After every cup we celebrate and if we don't held cups, at least once every two months we gather and drink till the bartenders kick our asses from the pub :D. The beauty of our small, elitist community is that all of us are friends with each other and we enjoy hanging out and party together. We are like a big family, or at least i like to see it this way :).

We are planning to do a fall edition, if there's interest from you guys we can stream the event with live coverage but with romanian-english potat accent :))).

Special thanks to qlSyncError for granting us league admin privileges to one of our accounts so we could spawn multiple premium servers.

The rest of the love goes to all of the people that keep this religion alive!

Heart Quake !!

Hi i made a zoomscript for a friend of mine he wanted to have when zoomed in simpleitems 0 and when zoomed out simpleitems 1

i got it partialy working exept i cant turn off the zoomtoggle somehow
when i press zoom it stays zoomed in and does not automaticly zoomout

[9-6-2013 19:09:09] drk: bind mouse2 "vstr zoomin"
set zoomin "+zoom; bind mouse2 vstr zoomout; cg_simpleitems 1; cg_zoomscaling 0"
set zoomout "-zoom; bind mouse2 vstr zoomin; cg_simpleitems 0; cg_zoomscaling 0"

Razer Abyssus -VS- Zowie AM (58 comments)
Posted by He4rTL3sS @ 15:41 BST, 12 June 2013 - iMsg
OK guys, from my own experience, I'll try to make a little comparison between the Razer Abyssus and the Zowie AM, to find out what is the best mouse between these two. OK, there you go :

Design and quality of the components:
ADVANTAGE AM!
It was kind of a hard decision to make, because I think that both mice look great and the components are of good quality for both mice. However the feel of the mice is different, I mean, the abyssus seems to be made of cheaper components than the AM. Overall the AM feels a little bit more solid and reliable. But keep in mind that the AM is more expensive, ~25€ more expensive as far as I know. Also, I don't know about the abyssus, but the AM does have omrons and huanos switches, means that the buttons are solid and will last longer.
I have an Abyssus mirror edition, and all I have to say is that it looks very nice. I like the glossy top of the mouse. For the AM, I would choose either the full gloss version (it just looks amazing, especially in full white!), or the rubber one. I personally have a rubber one, and I like the soft feeling of the mouse, it's a real pleasure for the fingers!

Weight:
ADVANTAGE ABYSSUS!
From what I experienced, the abyssus seems a little bit lighter. Nothing really more to say there, if you want the lightest possible mouse, go for the abyssus. The difference is only minor though, and to be honest, both mice are light and won't stress your hand/fingers too much.

Shape:
IT'S A DRAW!
The abyssus is a bit larger, but the AM is a bit longer. The abyssus has a more agressive design, while the AM seems to be more comfortable for your fingers, altho I would say that the abyssus is actually less stressful for your fingers, after a long session of gaming, paradoxaly. Only depends on the way you hold your mouse there, I guess. For some people, the abyssus feels more comfortable, while for other people, it's the AM. If you have a sweaty hand, I would recommend the abyssus because it's easier to fully hold the mouse and get a good grip on it. Maybe I should try the Zowie FK, would probably suit my finger type grip better. Anyway, altho being different, I personally like both shapes in their own way. I would say that the abyssus is pretty close to the Logitech mx300/G1/G3/G100(s), and quite close to the kinzu, but there again, with a more agressive shape. On the other hand, the AM is pretty close to the WMO/IMO 1.1a, with sides buttons, of course.

Scroll wheel:
IT'S A DRAW!
From what they say in the packaging, the AM does have a very solid scroll wheel, something that could last probably 2 or 3 years without breaking. From what I experienced, it does indeed feel nice and solid, but too hard for my liking. It's actually VERY hard to press it. On the other hand, the abyssus's scroll wheel doesn't suffer from any major issues/flaws, although, there again, I'm not sure if it could last more than 2 years without breaking. If you're looking for comfort, you might try the abyssus, whereas if you're looking for durability, you might want to try the AM.

Sensor and Lift-Off Distance (LOD):
LITTLE ADVANTAGE AM!
I've played with the abyssus for something like 11+ months, coming from a Steelseries Kinzu. At first I needed time to adapt to a non-prediction non-hardware accel mouse, but once I got used to it, I realized that the abyssus's sensor is definitely better than the kinzu's one. I'm not a Counter-Strike player, but still, I do not like accel at all. I'm just looking for a mouse which would read my mouse's movements on the mousepad at perfection, I'm looking for a "pure" sensor without any angle-snapping/prediction and so on.
The Avago ADNS-S3888 inside the abyssus is very close to perfection in that regard. However, what I do not really like after trying the AM, is the LOD of the abyssus. The AM has such a low LOD that it's almost impossible to go back to your previous high LOD mouse. I did a little test after playing with the AM for approximately 1+ month; I plugged in my old abyssus again, and guess what, I wasn't aware of such an issue before, but when you experience the low LOD of the AM, you just realize that a high LOD can be quite a serious flaw. I'm not saying that you just can't get used to a high LOD, basically you can get used to anything really, but still, a high LOD can be a pretty serious issue if you play with a low/very low sensitivity. That being said, I still like the abyssus sensor A LOT.
Now let's talk about the AM sensor. I have three words to describe it : pretty much perfection. The Avago ADNS 3090 sensor is pretty much flawless, you can make very slow as well as very fast movements without any loss in precision. I won't talk to much about this sensor because I think that almost everyone knows how good it is already. And like I said, the low LOD combined with a flawless sensor is a perfect combo, to be honest.

DPI and polling rates:
ADVANTAGE AM!
Let me remind you the DPI steps of the AM and abyssus. For the AM : 450, 1150 and 2300. For the abyssus : 450, 1800 and 3500. I tried the abyssus at both 3500 and 450dpi. But if I play with 3500dpi, I have, of course, to lower the ingame sensitivity A LOT (something like 0.4 to have approximately 30cm/360°). And to have an almost perfect 30cm/360° with 450dpi, I have to set up my sensitivity to 2.8. To be honest, I get pretty much exactly the same feeling at 30cm/360° with both 450 and 3500dpi. Didn't try high sensitivity with 3500dpi though.
Then with the AM I tried both 450 and 2300dpi. Except that, not like with the abyssus, I actually tried med/high sensitivity with 2300dpi. What I consider a med/high sensitivity is something under 20cm/360°. Actually it was exactly 16cm/360°. And to be honest, I liked the feeling of it!
So, basically, if you're a low sensitivity player, you might want to play with a low DPI, while if you're a high sensitivity player, you might try higher DPI.
Having said that, both mice work really great at both low and high DPI, only a matter of preference, but I would still recommend 450dpi nevertheless because in some games, it's not possible to have a sensitivity under 1, keep that in mind ;). At least if you're a low sensitivity user.
About the polling rate, well, nothing much to say there, just play with 1000hz, by default on the AM. The abyssus doesn't have a 500hz incrementation though, something that some people would miss.
Also, I prefer the way of changing DPI/polling rate with the AM than with the abyssus. For both mice, changing DPI can be done below the mouse, except that with the AM you have to press 1 button and then see the color of the little led close to that button to know how much DPI you have. For example, a red led means 450dpi and a blue led means 2300dpi. Genius! And if you want to change the polling rate of the AM, you just have to press a combination of button right before pluggin in the mouse! Works like a charm.
In the matter of the abyssus, the dpi/polling rate steps located below the mouse might be easily breakable if you move them too hard.

Mouse's skates:
ADVANTAGE AM!
I don't really like the skates of the abyssus, because I think that they are too small. I personally prefer large mouse's skates over small ones, even though it adds a little bit more friction. I also liked the fact that with the AM, they give you some additional mouse's skates.
And in term of feeling, well, both mice slide on the mousepad without interruption, with smoothness. They are pretty equivalent in that regard.

FINAL RATING:
If I had to rate these mice, I would give a 9 out of 10 for the AM, and a 8.5 out of 10 for the abyssus. So far the AM is probably the best mouse I have ever used, and the abyssus comes second right after it.
However, if you only have a low budget (in other words, if you are poor like Jamerio), go for the abyssus, you won't be disappoint. For this price's range the abyssus is probably the best mouse you could get, along with the g100s from Logitech. If you are a palm grip user, forget the abyssus though... And go for a DeathAdder from Razer or even an EC1/EC2 Evo from Zowie.

Team Liquid is ghey. Have you read their forums? The moderation is fucking horrific. The place exists on the pedestal of political correctness. I spent three hours once on IQ and genetics, only to have it closed. This is representative of NA culture. You hurt someones feelings, you're evil, no matter how accurate you are.

BAH!

Noticing this, I wonder why THIS WEBSITE is not the BE ALL and END ALL of "esports" news/websites?

Not trying to nudge the populace in a direction, but why is such a fantastic website 2nd tier?

G9x died, got a G600 (10 comments)
Posted by Dedi @ 18:38 BST, 11 June 2013 - iMsg
My G9x died (second time). Both time the same, mouse started disconnecting/reconnecting randomly.

As the G9x is outdated, they had to replace with another one, and send me a G600.

After they shipped, I found out the G600 has lag and no flashable firmware.

Any advise what to do now? I guess even the newest G600 still have the lag problem? Or should I open the box and test for myself, and then contact logitech support. Or contact them right away. Or just leave the box unopened and sell it to get another brand?

I only know for sure that I can't live with that lag when playing quake.
